Sasha Brown Classic
The Legacy That Inspires the Sasha Brown Classic
Sasha played basketball at Sierra College from 2010–2012, where her passion for the game and inspired play earned her a scholarship to Menlo College and the lasting admiration of Wolverine fans.
She embraced every challenge on the court, willingly taking on the toughest defensive assignments, battling for rebounds and delivering timely baskets when her team needed her most. Sasha was known for her enthusiasm, controlled aggression, tireless energy and her unwavering desire to be the best version of herself.
A natural leader, Sasha led not only with her voice, but through fearless action—diving for loose balls, taking charges without hesitation and setting the tone with her intensity. Her intense scowl could intimidate any Wolverine opponent and maybe a freshman or two, while her radiant smile brought light, joy and connection to everyone around her.
Beyond the court, Sasha truly embodied the Wolverine Way. She excelled academically, gave back to her community and consistently placed the needs of her team above her own.
Sasha passed away in the summer of 2013 and is deeply missed by the Sierra College women’s basketball family. Her spirit remains with us—felt every time the lights shine on Goto/Goldenberg Court and the Sierra College Wolverines take the floor.
Every time we host the Sasha Brown Classic, we invite you to honor Sasha Brown through your enthusiasm, sportsmanship, and desire to be the best you can be—and when you have the chance, lift a shaved ice in her name.

"Playing in the Sasha Brown tournament has been a huge honor not only to be playing for Sierra college as a whole, but in memory of such an amazing person. We got to talk to Sasha's mom, and she told us the stories of Sasha's childhood and what a hard worker she was even as a child. Her stories and her legacy have inspired me to work harder not only on the court but in life too. This tournament is such a great reminder for our team to work hard and have the famous Wolverine mentality with every aspect of life." #4 Mayci Ball (SO) - Guard |

"Playing in the Sasha Brown tournament was an amazing and insightful experience our whole team won't forget. When Sasha's mom spoke to us, it made everything feel so real and personal, it reminded us that we weren't just competing in another game, but playing for someone who's spirit, strength, and legacy still impact so many people today. Learning about who Sasha was, the way she inspired others and the kind of teammate and person she was, pushed all of us to play with more heart, gratitude and purpose. As a team, it made us want to match her energy, her leadership, her fight, and her love for the game. Being able to honor her story together on the court was truly special, and we felt privileged to be a part of something so much bigger than ourselves." #11 Ashlyn Greenfield (FR) - Guard |
